Williamson County will celebrate the opening of the third phase of Brushy Creek Regional Trail this Saturday.
The trail runs 6 miles along Brushy Creek from just east of Great Oaks Drive west to Twin Lakes Park at US 183 in Cedar Park.
Several parks located along the trail provide amenities accessible to walkers, runners and bikers consisting of splash pads, swimming areas, climbing rocks, fishing docks, canoeing and kayaking, restrooms and multiple picnic and pavilion areas.
The trail links residential communities, businesses and retail centers and existing and proposed parks while promoting conservation of open space, greenbelts and wetlands.
There will be a 5K TrailSetter Race starting at 8:45 a.m. hosted by the Greater Williamson County YMCA (go to www.runtex.com) and a kids 1k starting at 10:30 a.m.
A ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. with refreshments provided. The City of Cedar Park will hold the grand opening for its Brushy Creek Sports Park at 12:00 p.m. immediately following the BCRT opening.
