The Leander ISD Board of Trustees is seeking suggested names for 2 new LISD regional stadiums that will open in the coming years. Both projects were approved as part of Leander ISD’s 2007 school construction bond package.
The first is a regional stadium being constructed near Vandegrift High School and Four Points Middle School, off FM 2222. The second regional stadium will open in 2010 or 2011 on district-owned land on the south side of Park Street in Cedar Park. It will be located between Vista Ridge High School and LISD’s new Ronald Reagan Elementary, which opens in the fall of 2009.
The Board has complete authority in naming the properties/stadiums, but they may appoint a committee to study and suggest possible names. According to LISD policy, all new facilities must be named for one of the following:
1. Historical or geographical site or communities;
2. Deceased, significant individuals;
3. Local, state or national historical events and places;
4. Significant state or national figures; or,
5. A person who has made a significant contribution to education in the District.
The name submitted must be accompanied by a written rationale and/or description of the significance of the name. If the nominated name is an individual, the name submitted must be accompanied by a written rationale and/or description of the named person’s accomplishments. The nominee must be “widely respected, a person of character, and have a background of service to adults and children of Leander ISD, Texas and/or the United States.”
If you’d like to propose a name, you can send it, along with a written rationale and/or description of the significance of the name to:
Dick Ellis (School/Community Relations Office)
Leander ISD, Attention: Dick Ellis

The LISD Board plans to adopt the new stadium names in late February.
